The Grand Prix organised by FIDE starts today in the Strand. 100 Strand, London WC2 to be precise and despite the presence of twelve major players in the capital spectators are not admitted, which seems a surprise, but no tragedy.
Sponsorship comes from Patrons AGON. Invitees are: Nakamura, Ivanchuk, Grischuk, Topalov, Adams, Wang Hao, Gelfand, Leko, Mamedyarov, Dominguez-Perez, Giri and Kasimdzhanov. England’s Mickey Adams plays are a last minute replacement for Peter Svidler.
Restdays are 26th and 30th September.
A twelve player all-play-all, play starts today and runs to 3rd October.
The prize fund is a sparkling 240,000 euros.
