GP (11) London. Three Way tie at Simpson’s

With the leader taking a short – yet professional – quick draw the last round of the AGON Grand Prix in London took on an flavoursome uncertainty. Topalov and the longtime leader, Gelfand, took their chances and drew level with Mamedyarov. The English player, Mickey Adams, secured a draw to finished respectably, mid-table. Adams came in as a last minute replacement for the Russian Peter Svidler. Final scores at the 1st FIDE GP, 21st August-3rd September: V Topalov (BLG), B Gelfand (ISR) & S Mamedyarov (AZE) all – no tie-break was deemed necessary – 7/11; A Grischuk (RUS) 6.5; P Leko (HUN) 6; Wang Hao (CHN) 5.5; M Adams (ENG) & V Ivanchuk (UKR) both 5; R Kasimdzhanov (UZB) and L Dominguez-Perez (CBA) both 4.5; A Giri (NL) and H Nakamura (USA) both 4.
