There are also events for weaker players. The Old Ship Hotel is an excellent venue. Readers will remember that Brighton has a long chess heritage boasting players such as David Cummings, RD Keene, David Goodman, GH James, Andrew Kinsmann and Byron Jacobs, BCMs’ typesetter, and has been the scene for British Championships in 1938, 1972, 1980 and 1984. The local game has also been the subject of a history book by Brian Denman from nearby Hove. Steinitz and Chigorin even played here …

See you onboard the Ship!
