The time limit is 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 and 15 minutes for the rest of the game. A 30 second increment will be added after move 61 for each move played.

The players are not staying in the same hotel! Gelfand has been in the Alps, training and Anand has been in Germany, we read.

No Botvinnik clause! So nobody should have an advantage (at one time the World Champion kept the title if the match was drawn) unless I am missing something (or the rules are not clear to me). Hmnn...

The record may be modest but it is not wrong. The Scottish Championship was held on the very first occasion in Glasgow from 21st-25th July, 1884. The winner was a certain Mr. Crum. Final scores: J Crum 7/9. Fraser, Spens, Forsyth, Mills, Andrews, Gilchrist, McLeod, Chambers & Fyfe followed.

John Crum (1842-1922) was never to win the title again but the event was to visit Glasgow on many occasions in the years that followed, not to mention Troon, St Andrews, Ayr and, of course, Edinburgh. Crum was an endgame study composer and journalist.

There should be a Portisch game, from the Vidmar Memorial of 1973, in BCM 05/12.

BCM carried a Correspondence Chess column for several years but of late it had been dropped. We were happy to revive the monthly feature but unfortunately Kenny Harman was unable to continue. Family issues. We have spoken to several players in the postal world but so far no volunteers have come forward, despite offers of help and good wishes. We do hope that the tradition can be continued. Who will come forward and write for us? Full support offered of course!
