England lost 3-1 to the Philippines last night. A despressing result with losses on the middle boards by Jones and Short. Gawain has yet to win a single game on two and Nigel, by contrast, was carrying all before him on three. But luck was not on our side! W So draw M Adams; O Barbosa 1 Jones; E Torre 1 Short; M Paragua draw Pert. http://www.chessolympiadistanbul.com/ Russia 7.5/8; China, Armenia, USA, Germany and the Philippines all 6.5 … 150 teams. There is now little hope of the Ukrainians retaining their title they captured in 2010. England are notionally in 17th place on 5.5. Today we play an emerging nation, Vietnam. Three rounds to go!
