The Armenian Team, courtesy of chessolympiadistanbul.com Armenians are dancing in the streets of Istanbul tonight having won the chess olympics – the bi-ennial Chess Olympiad – for the third time. Russia, nosed-out on tie-break, recorded their best result for a decade. Ukraine took the bronze medal in the face of a mighty determined China! Final scores: 1st= Armenia and Russia both 9.5/11; 3rd= Ukraine (defending champions) and China both 9; 5th USA 8.5; 6th= The Netherlands, Vietnam(!) and Romania all 8; 9th= Hungary, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Italy, Sweden, England and Denmark all 7.5 … also Scotland 5.5; Ireland and Wales both 5; Guernsey and Jersey both 4. http://www.chessolympiadistanbul.com/
